2007     June           The Downtown Niles Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

 

2007     April           Niles Michigan ranks 140^th on Forbes list of Best Small Places for Business (the highest ranking Michigan city on the list)

2007     March         Niles DDA Main Street Program Manger successfully graduates from the National Trust for Historic Preservations

Certification in Professional Main Street Management Institute becoming the first Certified Main Street Manager in the MSHDA Michigan Main Street program.

 

2006     November   Niles becomes the first MSHDA Michigan Main Street program to receive accreditation through the National Trust for Historic Preservations National Main Street Center.  There are currently 28 Main Street programs in the State of Michigan 8 of which are nationally accredited programs. All of the accredited Main Street programs in Michigan except Niles are in Oakland County.

 

2006     May            Niles Michigan ranks 159^th on Forbes list of Best Small Places for Business http://www.forbes.com/lists/2006/5/MINil.html .

 

2005     June           Niles receives the Governors Award for Historic Preservation for the work done restoring the building facades on Main Street.

 

2004     June           Niles is chosen as one of 7 MEDC (MSHDA) Michigan Main Street Communities.

 

2003     March         Niles receives designation as 30^th National LISC Neighborhood Main Street Initiative community.
